"This small international village just above the Bowl is the perfect place from which to explore Hollywood. Forty five well kept bungalows (sleeping four to six, each with its own bathroom) make up the dormitory accommodation and there are ten private rooms, each with a TV, lockers and bathroom. Guests have access to the pool, kitchen, pool table, video games, a simple restaurant serving sandwiches and burgers under five bucks, and three dance parties a week. Its location is a bit removed from the action, but the hostel provides daily shuttles to attractions and nightlife."

BANANA BUNGALOW WAIKIKI BEACH

"Most of the hostels are small scale, but the newest place to jump into the fray, the Banana Bungalow, is a large operation, with as much capacity as all the other private hostels combined".... Banana Bungalow Waikiki Beach (hires@bananabungalow.com, 2463 Kuhio Ave., Honolulu, HI 96815) is hands-down the most cushy hostel in Hawaii. It occupies a modern mid-size building on Kuhio Ave., convenient to the bus and about a five minute walk from the beach. Run by a small mainland chain, the place is a cross between a hostel and a hotel, with about 25 rooms that each have six to eight dorm beds and 35 other rooms set aside as private accommodations. All rooms, whether dorm or private, have a bathroom, balcony, phone, cable TV and air-con. There's a choice of coed or same-sex dorms. Guests have use of kitchen facilities, a big screen TV, a coin laundry and computers with Internet Access ($1 per 10 minutes). Inexpensive barbecues are held three nights a week and there's a daily tours to Hanauma bay, Pearl Harbour or a hiking destination for $3 to $7. Snorkel gear, boogie boards, surfboards and moped can be rented on-site at reasonable rates. Dorm beds cost $16, while private rooms, with one king or two twin beds, start at $60; tax is included. Mastercard and Visa are accepted. FREE transportation is provided the airport; transportation back to the airport is $4.  Visit their website (www.bananabungalow.com) for additional information "

BANANA BUNGALOW MIAMI BEACH

Banana Bungalow Miami named one of America's 10 Best Budget Hotels by Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel Magazine

...Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel Magazine, August 2000

"Our new fave is the seriously fun banana Bungalow (305 674-9660, 2360 Collins Ave.). Now this is hosteling. It has a great pool, right on the canal, and more importantly, a great bar with a seriously fun crowd of Americans, Europeans and Aussies. It's in a seriously kitsch '50s building (the office was formerly a gas station) and dorm beds are $14 to $15, singles/doubles $66/106."

...Lonely Planet Miami, October 1999

"Banana Bungalow, 2360 Collins ave. (305 538-1951), at 23rd St., along northern edge of the Art Deco district. 180 bunk beds with thatched tiki tops. Free coffee, tea and toast. ...Let's Go U.S.A., 2000 edition

"If you are looking for a hostel where you can have tons of fun without ever leaving the premises, the Bungalow in South Beach Miami Beach is your best bet. There's so much to do - scheduled and unscheduled that you might not get out and see the rest of trendy SoBe."

... Hostels U.S.A., 1998

"A groovily updated 1950s motel, all angles, funky colors, and neon trim, it overlooks the Indian River several very walkable blocks north of the hopping South Beach scene and across the street from the beach. And this sprawling compound, a hostel like you've never seen, with tropical motifs, a cool pool and pool side bar, restaurant, organized activities, plus a fun holiday atmosphere generated by a young and heavily European clientele (though all ages and types are welcome)."

...Frommer's Budget Travel

"Opened in late 1996, this youth hostel-ish hotel is the most recent and recommendable addition to the South Beach budget scene. Situated across the street from a popular beach and within walking distance to the best shops, clubs, and restaurants this redone 1950s two story newcomer surrounds a pool and deck complete with shuffleboard, a small alfresco restaurant and a tiki bar where young European travelers drink beer and smoke Marlboros. Don't worry though there are plenty of non smoking rooms available. The best rooms face a narrow canal where motorboats and kayaks are available to rent for a small charge. In general rooms are clean and well kept despite a few rusty faucets and chipped formica furnishings. Guests in shared rooms need to bring their own towels.  It's unusual for a hostel but all rooms have telephones , televisions and air conditioning. Its also one of the only hotels in this price range with a private pool. In addition guests can enjoy free nightly movies."

...Frommer's Budget Travel

"There are several hostels in the area, but the two best ones also offer great private rooms. A fun and striking option for those seeking or tolerant of a round-the-clock party atmosphere is Banana Bungalow, a half block from the beach and a few (walkable) blocks north of the main action. Lush grounds, tropical decor, and a big swimming pool set the stage for a parade of tanned Euros and others who appreciate the (low cost) beds in coed or single-sex dorms (with AC, TV, phone, and private bath) or the (low cost) private doubles. Other perks include Club Med-style activities cooked up by the friendly staff, a private dock on the Indian River, and (best of all) nightly dinners served pool side for about $4."

BANANA BUNGALOW SAN DIEGO

"BB San Diego. Literally a few feet from the beach, this hostel's location is its greatest asset. Continental breakfast is complementary and served on the snuck."
...Fodor's California, 2000

"For Beach Bums no location can beat this one. The hostel is on oceanfront property, closer to the inviting blue swells of the Pacific than any other hostel in Southern California. The back patio is a great place from which to watch the whole beach scene."

...Hostels U.S.A., 1998

"Opened in July of 1993, the Bungalow has become the most popular hostel in the city. Offers a long list of amenities: great location, (directly on a beautiful beach), friendly staff, free breakfast, cheap keg parties and bonfires and BBQ's on the beach.....Located near bars and restaurants"

...Lets Go California, 1995

"This friendly, newly opened, bright yellow hostel offers the best location for the price in coastal San Diego, just inches from the sand...You get free breakfast, a sand volleyball area and a free keg party."
